An emergency fund is money for the unexpected — a broken washing machine, a dentist bill, losing your job. The classic guideline is 3–6 months of expenses: 3 months if your salary is stable and obligations few; 6 or more if your income fluctuates, you're self-employed or your household has a single earner. Keep it separate from your everyday account — in a savings account or deposit you can reach quickly. This money is not for investing: its job is to be there, not to grow.
